Packing and Moving Boxes: FAQ and Important Information
As an established online moving box company, MoveOut.com understands that you are packing your valuable, and in some cases, priceless possessions inside of your packing and moving boxes. This is why customers should be aware that not all cardboard moving boxes are alike. You should be knowledgeable of how box quality, size and load will affect your move.
Below are some questions and answers about our packing and moving boxes, our moving supplies online, our company and our services:
Q: "Why is box strength important?"
A: Corrugated boxes come in all shapes, strengths and sizes - the stronger the box, the greater the protection for its contents. The moving industry is very competitive, but professional movers use packing and moving boxes that are at least 32 ECT (or the 200-lb test) in strength. These ratings are up to the box industry standard, and help to insure that your household belongings will arrive safely. Weaker boxes will crush under load. No moving, truck rental or self storage company should sell a moving box weaker than 32 ECT. There are some retailers that sell much weaker 150-lb test boxes, up to 46% weaker than industry-standard. These retailers will label these boxes as “moving boxes.” BEWARE! This box was actually designed for light-weight usage and should not be used for moving your belongings.
Q: "How Do I Know How Strong My Box Is?"
A: All packing and moving boxes have a certificate seal, printed by the manufacturer, certifying the box's strength on the bottom flap. Industry-standard moving boxes can hold at least 200-lb of test-weight or are classified as 32 ECT. Larger boxes, like wardrobe boxes or kitchen/dish packing boxes, should have a higher test-weight/strength. The certificate will also include the capacity in weight that the box is designed to handle. Just because a box is large doesn't mean it can or should hold a lot of weight. Be sure to check box strength before you make a purchase to make sure your boxes can adequately fulfill your needs.
Q: "How can you sell your products at such a low price?"
A: MoveOut.com is not a box manufacturer, we are a box distributor. We buy over one million boxes every year, so we are able to get great prices from our suppliers. By focusing only on moving and packing boxes for consumers, we are able to obtain great savings on our large orders, which we pass along to our customers.
Q: "Is size important?"
A: Yes, size matters -- but only in the sense of manageability. Many moving companies sell large packing and moving boxes with the expectation that they will be used by large men and large moving machines. However, based on customer demand, MoveOut.com supplies boxes in sizes and dimensions that make them more manageable. These are popular among our clients, most of whom are self-movers.
Either way, how you pack your box is as important as how large the box is. Empty space in a box creates trouble, and the number one cause of damage during a move is created by a box that is not fully packed. See our Packing Tips for more details
Q: "Are your boxes brand new?"
A: YES - brand new, un-printed boxes that we have received directly from the largest box manufacturers in the United States.
Q: "Is it OK to use used boxes for moving?"
A: Moving and packing boxes get weaker when they are reused, and get ruined when they get wet. One of the biggest concerns is the side of the box, where the seam is glued. Over time, this glue becomes unreliable. If you do utilize used boxes, you should inspect them carefully before packing.
For these reasons, MoveOut.com does not sell used boxes. For shipping, regulations for carriers, like UPS and FedEx, prohibit the use of used boxes.
Q: "Are your boxes high quality?
A: YES - In fact, our boxes test over the 200-lb test industry standard. Our boxes are more than tough enough, even for shipping! Additionally, our kitchen and wardrobe boxes are double the 32 ECT strength.
Q: "How do you choose the box sizes?"
A: For our moving supplies and box bundles, MoveOut.com has chosen the most popular sizes used in our years of student moving, and used these sizes as benchmarks. See our Packing Tips Center to make sure that you choose the right size to ensure good packing.
Q: "Are your boxes guaranteed?"
A: Absolutely! If you purchase our moving and packing boxes and are not satisfied, you can return them within ten (10) days of receipt for a refund. Please Click Here for our policy concerning our guarantee.
